Saturday the 1st of June 2002, 10:30 AM and the riders and support crew set their sites on the parade in Dean Street Albury. This is the final time the community will see the Akta-Vite Campfires Against Cancer team before they head off to Darwin.

The Akta-Vite Campfires Against Cancer riders and crew assemble outside the Telstra Country Wide national HQ ready for the parade from the Botanical Gardens at the lower end of Dean Street finishing at the Astor Hotel in Young Street.

The horse and rider contingent was led off by Dan and Ian followed by the remainder of the riders leading their horses that are going to be a part of the ride.

Bek drove the lead car behind a Police escort as the team made their way up Dean Street.

Saturday morning and Dean Street is a busy place, shoppers showed the team their appreciation for their efforts.

As the parade progresses the team take a last look at Albury’s main Street, for the next day they leave to begin this mammoth task and will not see Albury again for 10 months.

Above, even the animals are dressed for the occasion in their bright orange Akta-Vite colours.
