“Our Intentions”
In June 2002, Dan Phegan, Ian James and their support crew, will ride out of Darwin on an epic horse ride/cattle drive across Australia (our route can be seen in our logo).

The trip will take approximately 10 months
and it’s primary objective is to raise funds for cancer research.

We will be travelling through major outback centres such as Mount Isa, Longreach, Charleville and then reaching Tamworth for the week of the country music festival in January 2003. We will then make our way inland NSW and down to Victoria to reach our final destination in Corryong to coincide with the opening of “The Man From Snowy River Bush Festival”. The festival will highlight the end of our ride.

In conjunction with raffles and other fund raising ideas, we will be asking each farm along the route from Boggabilla to Wodonga to donate a cow or steer. Once the herd is of a suitable size and condition, they will be sold and all proceeds will be donated to the Cancer Council. It will be a continual process of building up and selling off. We hope to raise $500,000 for Cancer research and have been endorsed by The Cancer Council as a major fundraiser; Outback 2002 and The Man From Snowy River Bush Festival also support us.

You are invited to join our journey at a cost of $50.00 per day, per person (BYO everything) that will be donated to The Cancer Council. Upon joining our ride, each participant will receive a complimentary cap together with a certificate of participation (maximum stay for guests 3 weeks at one time).

Who...
Dan, 26, lives on a small farm in Wirlinga, by day is a self-employed Real Estate agent, and by night a musician. His horse-riding heritage dates back to his grandfather who was an excellent horseman and a willing teacher to anyone willing to learn. An active member in Police Youth Pony Club in Albury for many years, Dan has followed in both his grandfather’s and father’s footsteps, having instructed horse riding. This has taken him to many areas of Australia and as far away as the United States.

Ian, 34, has been involved with horses for twenty-three years and has been an instructor at Wirlinga Pony Club for twelve years.  He has also taught riding overseas and was part of the first Australian Camel Racing Team to tour the United Arab Emirates in February 1998. When not playing with horses, Ian’s day job is the Rates Manager at Hume Shire Council.

Why...
Both Ian and Dan have lost close friends and relatives to different forms of cancer, and are continually inspired by the courage of those that are fighting to beat the disease. Some of their stories are inspirational reading, which can be viewed on the Tribute Page. It is both men’s belief that with enough funding, all forms of cancer can be beaten. It is simply a matter of time and research, but without money there can be little research
