Country music star, Sara Storer is thrilled to be coming home to Katherine for the launch of her new single “Trail Of Dreams” written specifically for the “Akta-vite Campfires Against Cancer” Charity Horse Ride. Sara will be performing her new single at the Katherine Country Club on Tuesday 16th July 2002. Sara’s new single “Trail Of Dreams” features on a compilation Album which has been put together by Garth Porter featuring hit songs from other major artists such as Lee & Tania Kernaghan. There will also be an auction of Souvenir Memorabilia and Raffles, with all proceeds going towards the $500,000.00 Target set by “Akta-vite Campfires Against Cancer” Horse Ride Appeal. Organisers of the ride Dan Phegan and Ian James said they are so pleased to have the support of such a fabulous Australian Country Music artist as Sara. Danny said “The support given by the Country Music industry for our cause has just been fantastic. We are so excited to be able to launch Sara’s new single here in Katherine, which is obviously a special place for Sara and I’m sure this will be a hugely successful start to the CD sales”. Sara’s story remains the stuff country legends are made of — unknown young songwriter, discovered by famous country music producer, signs a recording deal and becomes a star. A young schoolteacher working in Katherine in the Northern Territory and writing songs in her spare time, she entered a talent quest and won a scholarship to the 2000 CMAA College of Country Music in Tamworth. She made the long trek to Tamworth, and found the course as inspiring as she’d been told it would be. She also met multi-Golden Guitar winning producer Garth Porter, who’s been responsible for launching the stellar careers of Lee and Tania Kernaghan, amongst others. Garth was captivated by Sara’s unique, fresh style — both her heartfelt and evocative music and her very Australian vocal presentation. He asked her to record a tape of some of her songs, and rushed them to ABC Music. They too saw Sara’s potential, and offered her a recording deal. “It just took my breath away. They hadn’t even met me, and they were offering to sign me. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d leap into a music career in such an amazing way,” Sara said. Sara’s music is like a breath of fresh air — warm, earthy and full of subtle layers. It is also very, very Australian, with stylistic echoes of Colin Buchanan and Norma O’Hara Murphy, yet at the same time highly original. “All my songs are based on real people or real experiences, and they all have more to them than first meets the eye. Often music can convey things you didn’t even know you’d captured in the song — that’s why I love writing songs so much. People often tell me they’ve found layers of meaning in my songs that even I wasn’t aware were there. But they are usually true, so my subconscious must be taking control somewhere,” she said.
