CANCER APPEAL RIDERS CALL ON QUEENSLAND 18th September 2002: Commonwealth Bank branches in Queensland are gearing up to receive donations to the Akta-Vite Campfires against Cancer Appeal with the arrival of the appeal riders at Mt Isa enroute from Darwin to Victoria. The volunteer riders are expected in Mt Isa by the end of this week and will stay for several days. The Commonwealth Bank is a major sponsor of the Appeal. At 4,500km, this is regarded as the longest charity horse-ride in the world, with volunteer riders passing through more than 70 towns. In 2002 The Year of the Outback this Appeal seeks to involve rural communities in the fight against cancer and invites local participants to join sections of the ride. Country musician Brendon Walmsley, recipient of three Golden Guitar awards, will join a Benefit Concert on Saturday night at Mount Isa’s Irish Club.
