Trail Of Dreams – Darwin to Corryong

The Event – From June 2002 to May 2003 Dan Phegan and Ian James will undertake an epic 9 month ride on horseback from Darwin (NT) to Corryong (Victoria) to raise money for cancer Research. The journey will travel through the outback and reach Tamworth in January to coincide with the Country Music Festival, and then on through NSW and Victoria to Corryong for the Man From Snowy River Bush Festival and a huge final concert with many special events in between.

Fund Raising – Money will be raised by selling off donated collected stock en route, raffles, donations, merchandise, contributions from local accompanying riders and sales of the Trail Of Dreams CD. Major sponsors such as Akta-vite and Telstra Country Wide have covered all overheads so all the money raised will go to the Cancer Council. The target is $500,000.00 and will go towards the much-needed research into finding a cure.

The Song – Trail Of Dreams was specially written by Garth Porter, Sara Storer and Martin Oakes to commemorate the ride.  Sara and Martin were neighbours when Sara was teaching in Kalkaringi, and the blend of the two bushies on this song of hope and goodwill has a charm of its own. It features the who’s who of musicians and has already received an enthusiastic reaction from those who have heard it.  For every reason, this song truly deserves your support – every play on radio will help make a difference to those who need assistance – you can make the difference!

The Album – The album is a collection of songs individually chosen by the artists and donated to the project.  The cream of our greatest country stars have given their support to this exciting and worthy project. Check out the artists involved below – an incredible line up and track listing.

Summary – This unique event has already caught the imagination of those who have heard about it, and by the time Dan and Ian finally dismount in Corryong the story of their ride will be etched into the folklore of the outback tradition.  The Trail Of Dreams CD, cat # TOD2002, will be available on the ride and through One Stop Entertainment, who have generously agreed to distribute Trail Of Dreams at no cost. Mike Smith has also generously provided the inclusion on NFS #74. The grand scale of the whole project and its purpose has caught the imagination of many and will continue to do so in ever increasing numbers as the ride travels its long journey across Australia.
