And the nights entertainment went some thing like this... |
|
The people of Tennant Creek were really helpful in organising this event. The editor of the local paper placed ads in the paper free of charge and put a story in about the boys goals. We had a local singing talent, John Stock entertain the crowd for the first hour with Dave Mills acting as the MC who also conducted the auction. A bar-b-que was served for dinner and a band (Shauna Hartig and XCountry) played after John Stock finished his repertoire. Everyone got in the swing of things and danced the night away. Dans' parents sold merchandise on the night as well as during the day. The auction raised $4200 on the night with items such as digital cameras, palm pilots and various other items. The highlight was a cricket bat signed by the Rt series teams from the years 1987-88, (Australia, New Zealand & Sri Lanka). The item was purchased by Colin for $312 for his new grandson, but was later offered $2000 by an English visitor who stated that this bat would fetch between $5000 and $10000 from the clubs in England. Colin wouldn't budge though and the bat remained in his possession. To my knowledge some of the guests were still chatting around the fire at 4 in the morning. After this, I've got no idea what happened because I went to bed! Thanks must be made to John Jenkins and his staff from the Threeways roadhouse for all their help on the night. Their help and involvement on the night made it the success it was. Kay Eade |
